Are you having difficulty viewing this site?

This site is designed to be completely functional and easily viewed on most computers less than 5 years old. If however you are having difficulty please check the following:

Computer Horsepower: For acceptable display of many of our smaller animations and spherical photos, the following is recommended. CPU speed 800MHz, 256MB RAM, Color resolution should be set to at least "thousands" of colors(16-bit). The high resolution images and video footage really need a fast machine, we recommend a 1GHz CPU with 1GB memory.

Download Speed: Many pages of this web site are designed to download and be partially functional in less than 20 seconds for visitors with a 56KB dial-in line. However, our site is heavily image oriented and we strongly recommend that high speed internet connections be used to take full advantage of our images. DSL or cable internet connections would be best.

All large images are downloaded in "progressive" format. i.e. The images are downloaded in multiple phases. First a rough blurry image is quickly downloaded, then more phases of successively higher resolution or chunks of image are downloaded. This gives the viewer the chance to "see" the image before it is completely downloaded and eases the frustration factor of staring at a blank canvas. This "progressive" display mechanism is not available with versions of web browsers older than version 4. However, the image will download normally and appear when completely downloaded.

Screen size: We have designed much of this site to be visible on modern size display screens that are 1024 pixels wide by 768 pixels high. When using a display window smaller than that required by the page, scroll bars will automatically appear to permit viewing the entire content of the page by scrolling the image areas.

However, since we are primarily an image centered organization we have recently elected to show some of our images to best advantage and recommend a large screen (at least 1280x1024), a fast computer (about 1GHz), and a fast internet connection (about 1Mbit/sec).

TOP

Browser type: This web site uses technology introduced several years ago with the Netscape 4 and Internet Explorer 4 web browsers. If your web browser is version 3 or older some features will not be available. However, we strongly recommend that you use Internet Explorer 6 or 7 or Netscape 6 or 7. We try to avoid using obcure or experimental technology but continue to take advantage of newer technology when it serves our needs.

Image viewing: In order to view most our spherical images and animations the free QuickTime player plug-in is required. Our spherical panoramas require at least QuickTime5. The current version is QuickTime7. The free QuickTime player is available from Apple. It is safe, proven, well accepted, reliable software that works equally well on PC as well as Macintosh platforms. You do NOT need to purchase QuickTime. The free player is sufficient. However the full purchased version of QuickTime permits you to store and edit the images viewed.

Some of the panoramas or animations require JAVA. The JAVA applet code will download automatically into your browser if you have JAVA enabled in your browser and your firewall permits it to pass.

We have recently begun to add a few FLASH technology images. The new display system called Zoomify requires FLASH 9 but our other FLASH animations are simple and work well with older versions of the FLASH player. You can get the free FLASH Player from Adobe by clicking on the following badge.

Note: We use QuickTime because we have found that images displayed by QuickTime are consistently better quality than when displayed with JAVA or FLASH. The panoramas move more smoothly and the resolution is supurb. JAVA and FLASH have their place but our intent is to produce some of the finest panorama images available. To that end we will continue to use QuickTime as our primary display technology.

Text Size: Web browsers default to displaying text characteristics specified by the web page, however some users configure their web browsers to display the text in a larger size or different font (style). Some pages on this site have been designed for "normal" or "medium" size text. Changing the text size to larger will cause some paragraphs to overlap those below them. If you are experiencing this problem reduce your browser's default text size to "normal" or "medium"

Standard text size is changed in your web browser's menu as follows:

  • Internet Explorer: Click on "View", then click on "Text Size" then choose a desired size, "medium". The default is "medium".
  • Netscape: Click on "View", then click on "Text Zoom" then choose a desired size: 100% is the default.

If you are still experiencing technical problems with this site we appreciate notification of your difficulty. Please contact us at Photos@LGProductions.com
